The First Fall

5 of 8 — The First Fall

In the early autumn of a life that has labored,
where the weight of doing begins to settle into meaning,
I arrive at a quieter edge of myself—
not stopping, but slowing enough to see.

It is late afternoon,
the sun dipping lower with a gentler authority,
its golden light no longer demanding,
but revealing.

The air has changed—
cooler now, with a crisp honesty,
leaves beginning to loosen their grip,
drifting not in panic, but in timing.

This is the season of harvest,
of seeing what has truly grown
and what was only ever effort.

My mind is open,
but no longer restless—
it reflects, it gathers,
it understands that not every path was meant to last.

My heart is open,
softer now,
touched by both fulfillment and quiet ache,
learning that beauty often carries a trace of loss.

And my hands—
they begin to open again,
not to reach, but to release,
to let fall what I no longer need to hold.

There is peace in this shift,
even in the letting go—
a quiet trust in the rhythm
that asks nothing to stay forever.

In this cooling light,
this gentle unraveling,
I am learning that fullness
is not just in what I carry—
but in what I am finally willing to set free.
