HYPNOTHERAPY SCRIPT

Childhood Eczema, Skin Sensitivity & Emotional Regulation

Therapeutic intention:
To help the client develop a calmer relationship with their body and skin, reduce stress-related activation, release emotional associations connected with childhood experiences, strengthen self-acceptance and safety, and develop healthier unconscious responses to discomfort, irritation and stress.

Important therapeutic note:
This script is complementary to appropriate medical care. Eczema and other skin conditions can have multiple biological, environmental and psychological influences. The therapist should not suggest that childhood trauma, emotions or psychological conflict are the definitive cause of the client’s skin condition.

1. INTRODUCTION

Today, this session is about creating a different relationship between your mind, your body and your skin.

You have lived with your skin for a long time.

Perhaps you remember the itching, the irritation, the discomfort, the scratching, the embarrassment, the questions from other people, or the feeling of wanting your skin to simply be quiet.

And perhaps some of those experiences began when you were very young.

Today, we are not going to fight your skin.

We are not going to blame your body.

We are not going to search for one single explanation for everything you have experienced.

Instead, we are going to create an internal environment of greater calm, safety, acceptance and regulation.

Your body has been trying to protect you throughout your entire life.

And now you can begin learning how to give your body the message:

You are safe now.
You can relax now.
You don’t have to remain on constant alert.

2. SAFETY DISCLAIMER

This hypnosis session is complementary and does not replace medical diagnosis, dermatological treatment, medication or other appropriate healthcare.

Your skin condition may have many contributing factors, including genetics, immune responses, environmental triggers and stress.

This session does not attempt to remove or medically treat those factors.

Instead, it supports relaxation, emotional regulation, body awareness and healthier responses to stress and discomfort.

If any medical treatment has been prescribed for you, continue that treatment as directed by your healthcare professional.

And throughout this session, you remain in control.

You can open your eyes at any time.

You can move your body whenever you need to.

You can stop the session whenever you choose.

3. PREPARATION

Make yourself comfortable.

Allow your body to be supported by the chair or the surface beneath you.

Place your hands comfortably.

There is nothing you need to achieve.

Nothing you need to force.

Nothing you need to prove.

Simply allow yourself to be here.

Take a slow, comfortable breath in…

And gently breathe out.

Again…

Breathing in…

And breathing out.

With every breath, allow yourself to become a little more aware of the support beneath you.

You don’t have to carry everything right now.

For these next few moments, you can simply allow yourself to be supported.

4. PRE-INDUCTION

Bring your attention to your breathing.

Notice the natural rhythm.

There is nothing you need to change.

Simply notice.

And now notice your forehead.

Allow the muscles around your forehead to soften.

Allow your eyes to become comfortable.

Let the muscles around your eyes relax.

Allow your jaw to loosen.

Your shoulders can drop slightly.

Your arms can become heavier.

Your hands can relax.

And now notice your chest.

Your abdomen.

Your back.

Your legs.

Your feet.

Your whole body can begin moving toward greater physical stillness.

And as your body becomes quieter…

your mind can become quieter too.

5. HYPNOTIC INDUCTION

In a moment, I will count slowly from ten down to one.

With each number, you can allow yourself to move deeper into relaxation.

Ten…

Beginning to relax.

Nine…

Allowing yourself to become more comfortable.

Eight…

Breathing calmly.

Seven…

Letting unnecessary tension begin to leave.

Six…

Your body becoming heavier and more supported.

Five…

Halfway down now…

Four…

Going deeper into calm.

Three…

More relaxed.

Two…

Quiet and comfortable.

One…

Deeply relaxed.

And there is nothing to do.

Nothing to accomplish.

Simply allow yourself to experience this moment.

6. DEEPENING

Imagine yourself in a place where your body feels completely safe.

It might be somewhere you know.

It might be somewhere imaginary.

It doesn’t matter.

Perhaps there is warmth.

Perhaps there is gentle sunlight.

Perhaps there is the sound of water.

Perhaps there is simply silence.

And in this place, you don’t have to perform.

You don’t have to hide.

You don’t have to explain yourself.

You can simply exist.

And as you remain there, imagine that every breath sends a gentle message throughout your nervous system:

Safe.

Breathing in…

Safe.

Breathing out…

Release.

Breathing in…

Safe.

Breathing out…

Release.

7. THERAPEUTIC INTERVENTION

And now, at a comfortable distance, allow your mind to become aware of the younger version of you.

Not to relive anything.

Not to force memories.

Not to search for trauma.

Simply acknowledge that there was once a younger you.

A child who was learning how to understand the world.

A child whose body was growing.

A child who experienced things before having the adult understanding you have today.

And perhaps that child experienced discomfort.

Perhaps there were moments of itching.

Moments of irritation.

Moments of being looked at differently.

Moments of feeling embarrassed.

Perhaps there were times when that child wanted to hide.

And perhaps there were experiences that were difficult to understand.

You don’t need to know exactly what caused anything.

You don’t need to find a single hidden cause.

You can simply offer that younger self something incredibly important:

Compassion.

Imagine yourself as the adult you are today standing beside that younger version of yourself.

And silently communicate:

“You don’t have to understand everything that happened.”

“You don’t have to carry everything anymore.”

“You were doing the best you could with what you knew.”

“Your body was never your enemy.”

“You were never less worthy because of your skin.”

“You were never less lovable because your body reacted in ways you didn’t understand.”

Pause.

And now imagine that younger you receiving the understanding that perhaps was difficult to receive back then.

Not necessarily from another person.

But from you.

From the adult you have become.

And you can say:

“I see you.”

“I accept you.”

“I am here with you.”

“You are safe with me now.”

Releasing the Old Association

Sometimes the nervous system learns associations.

A sensation can become associated with fear.

An itch can become associated with frustration.

A visible mark can become associated with embarrassment.

A flare can become associated with helplessness.

And once the brain learns an association, it can continue responding automatically.

But what the brain has learned can also be responded to differently.

So from this moment forward, whenever you notice irritation, discomfort or the urge to react, you can begin creating a small space between sensation and response.

Sensation is not danger.

Discomfort is not failure.

An itch is not an instruction.

You can notice.

You can breathe.

You can pause.

And you can choose your response.

Your body can learn:

“I can experience a sensation without immediately becoming frightened by it.”

Calming the Nervous System

Imagine now a gentle wave of relaxation moving through your body.

From the top of your head…

down through your face…

your neck…

your shoulders…

your chest…

your abdomen…

your arms…

your hands…

your legs…

and your feet.

And imagine that your nervous system is learning a new language.

The language of safety.

Calm.

Balance.

Rest.

Recovery.

You don’t have to consciously control every process in your body.

Your body already knows how to regulate many things.

Your role is simply to create the conditions in which relaxation becomes easier.

8. POSITIVE REINFORCEMENT

From today forward, you can begin treating your body differently.

Instead of frustration…

compassion.

Instead of rejection…

acceptance.

Instead of immediately reacting…

pause.

Instead of thinking:

“Why is my body doing this to me?”

you can begin asking:

“What does my body need from me right now?”

Perhaps it needs rest.

Perhaps it needs care.

Perhaps it needs appropriate treatment.

Perhaps it needs you to slow down.

Perhaps it simply needs kindness.

And every time you respond to your body with calm rather than panic, you reinforce a new pattern.

9. FUTURE PACING

Imagine yourself tomorrow.

Going about your normal day.

And perhaps you notice your skin.

Maybe there is an itch.

Maybe there is some irritation.

Maybe there is simply awareness.

And instead of immediately becoming overwhelmed by it…

you pause.

One slow breath.

And another.

You remind yourself:

“I am safe.”

“I can respond calmly.”

“I can care for my body without fighting it.”

Imagine yourself applying whatever appropriate treatment or care has been recommended to you.

Calmly.

Without shame.

Without anger.

Without believing that your skin determines your worth.

Now imagine a difficult day.

Stress.

Pressure.

Frustration.

And notice that you recognize the signs earlier.

Your shoulders tighten.

Your breathing changes.

Your thoughts accelerate.

And instead of waiting until everything becomes overwhelming…

you pause.

You breathe.

You regulate.

You choose.

This is your new response.

Not perfection.

Progress.

10. THERAPEUTIC SUGGESTIONS & AFFIRMATIONS

Allow these suggestions to settle into your unconscious mind in whatever way is useful for you.

I am not my skin.

My skin does not define my worth.

My body deserves kindness.

I can care for myself without judging myself.

I can experience discomfort without becoming overwhelmed by it.

I can pause before I react.

I can calm my nervous system.

I can release unnecessary tension.

I am allowed to feel safe in my own body.

I can give my younger self compassion.

I do not need to carry yesterday into today.

I can respond to my body with patience.

I am learning new patterns of calm.

I listen to my body without fearing every sensation.

I respect my body’s needs.

I accept myself as I am while continuing to care for myself.

And perhaps the most important suggestion:

My skin does not need to be perfect for me to be worthy of love, connection and belonging.

Allow that thought to settle deeply.

11. REORIENTATION

In a moment, I will count from one up to five.

At five, you can return fully to the room feeling refreshed, comfortable and present.

One…

Beginning to bring your awareness back.

Two…

Feeling the surface supporting your body.

Three…

Becoming aware of the room around you.

Four…

Taking a deeper, comfortable breath.

Five…

Eyes open when you’re ready.

Fully awake.

Present.

Alert.

And comfortable.

Take a moment before moving.

12. CLOSING

Take another slow breath.

And remember:

Your skin is something you experience.

It is not who you are.

Your history is something you have lived through.

It does not have to determine every moment of your future.

You can care for your body.

You can care for your emotions.

You can learn to respond rather than automatically react.

And you can continue receiving whatever medical and therapeutic support you need.

You don’t have to fight yourself to heal your relationship with yourself.

Sometimes healing begins with something much simpler:

Learning to be on your own side.

13. POST-SESSION GUIDANCE

For the next few days, notice three things:

1. What happens before you become stressed?

2. What thoughts or emotions appear when you notice your skin?

3. What happens when you pause, breathe and respond with kindness rather than frustration?

Do not judge what you discover.

Simply observe.

The purpose is not to prove that emotions cause your skin condition.

The purpose is to develop greater awareness of the relationship between stress, thoughts, emotions, sensations and behaviour.

Continue any prescribed medical treatment and identify physical triggers with an appropriate healthcare professional.

Your task is simply to practice the new response:

Notice.
Breathe.
Pause.
Choose.
Care.
