30-DAY ACTION PLAN
Learning to Live Differently
A Practical Guide to Applying the Lessons of The Bill Book
There is a moment in every person’s life when understanding is no longer enough.
You can know what you have done.
You can understand why you did it.
You can recognise the patterns.
You can even regret the consequences.
But eventually, knowledge has to become action.
The purpose of this 30-day action plan is to take the lessons of The Bill Book out of your head and put them into your life.
For the next 30 days, you are going to become more conscious of the bills you are creating, the bills you are paying, the bills you are avoiding, and the bills you may still be carrying from your past.
This is not about punishing yourself.
It is about becoming responsible for what comes next.
Because you cannot change yesterday.
But you can change what you do today.
HOW TO USE THIS 30-DAY PLAN
Every day has three components:
1. Understand — a principle to consider.
2. Act — something practical to do.
3. Reflect — questions that require honesty.
Do not rush through the exercises.
Some days will be uncomfortable.
That is intentional.
The goal is not to make you feel guilty.
The goal is to make you conscious.
And consciousness gives you something that regret never can:
the opportunity to choose differently.
DAY 1 — THE BILL ALWAYS COMES DUE
Understand
Every choice has a consequence.
Some consequences arrive immediately.
Others take years.
The fact that you cannot see the bill does not mean there isn’t one.
Act
Write down five significant choices you have made in your life that had consequences you can still see today.
They can involve:
- relationships
- money
- career
- health
- family
- friendships
- opportunities
- personal behaviour
Reflect
What have I been pretending has no cost?
Write without editing yourself.
DAY 2 — LOOK AT YOUR LIFE HONESTLY
Understand
You cannot change what you refuse to acknowledge.
Today is about removing the excuses.
Act
Divide a page into two columns:
What I am happy with
What I am not happy with
Be brutally honest.
Reflect
What area of my life requires my attention most urgently?
DAY 3 — THE CHOICES THAT CREATED TODAY
Understand
Your present life is partly the result of previous choices.
That does not mean everything that happened to you was your fault.
It means you must distinguish between what happened to you and what you subsequently chose to do.
Act
Choose one area of your life that isn’t working.
Ask:
What choices contributed to creating this situation?
Reflect
What part of this situation belongs to me?
DAY 4 — STOP BLAMING
Understand
Blame can explain your past.
It cannot repair your future.
Act
Identify one person you have blamed for something in your life.
Write:
“What happened was…”
Then write:
“What I am responsible for now is…”
Reflect
What would change if I stopped waiting for somebody else to fix this?
DAY 5 — WHAT NEEDS TO COME WITH A WARNING?
Understand
Some choices look attractive because we see the reward but not the cost.
Today you are going to identify your personal warning signs.
Act
Write down five things that have repeatedly created problems in your life.
Beside each one, write:
WARNING: IF I DO THIS, THIS IS WHAT USUALLY HAPPENS.
Reflect
What warning have I ignored repeatedly?
DAY 6 — YOUR RELATIONSHIP BILL
Understand
Relationships also have invoices.
Neglect, dishonesty, resentment, selfishness and absence eventually have consequences.
So do love, kindness, presence and forgiveness.
Act
Think about the five most important people in your life.
Write beside each person’s name:
What have I given this relationship?
What have I taken from it?
Reflect
Which relationship needs my attention most?
DAY 7 — SAY WHAT NEEDS TO BE SAID
Understand
Some bills remain unpaid because we are unwilling to have difficult conversations.
Act
Identify one conversation you have been avoiding.
Write down what you actually need to say.
Do not rehearse an argument.
Speak from responsibility.
Reflect
What am I afraid will happen if I tell the truth?
DAY 8 — APOLOGISE WITHOUT CONDITIONS
Understand
An apology is not:
“I’m sorry, but…”
An apology is an acknowledgement of impact.
Act
If appropriate and safe, apologise to someone you have genuinely hurt.
Do not demand forgiveness.
Do not expect a particular response.
Simply take responsibility.
Reflect
Can I take responsibility without needing to be absolved immediately?
DAY 9 — FORGIVE YOURSELF
Understand
Taking responsibility does not mean spending the rest of your life punishing yourself.
You are allowed to learn.
Act
Write a letter to your younger self.
Tell that person:
- what you understand now
- what you wish you had known
- what you forgive yourself for
- what you will do differently
Reflect
What am I still punishing myself for?
DAY 10 — YOUR MONEY BILL
Understand
Money has consequences too.
What you spend today affects the freedom you have tomorrow.
Act
Look honestly at your finances.
Identify:
- unnecessary expenses
- debt
- impulsive spending
- financial commitments
- neglected obligations
Reflect
What financial behaviour is creating tomorrow’s bill?
DAY 11 — YOUR TIME BILL
Understand
Money can be replaced.
Time cannot.
Every hour you give to something is an hour you cannot give somewhere else.
Act
Track your time today.
At the end of the day, identify:
What gave me value?
What drained me?
What did I waste?
Reflect
If I knew I had only one year left, what would I stop doing?
DAY 12 — YOUR ATTENTION BILL
Understand
Where your attention goes, your life follows.
Act
For one day, become conscious of what receives your attention.
Notice:
- your phone
- social media
- television
- other people’s problems
- arguments
- gossip
- work
- family
- yourself
Reflect
What receives far more of my attention than it deserves?
DAY 13 — YOUR WORDS HAVE A COST
Understand
Words can create bills that money cannot pay.
A sentence can damage trust.
A promise can create expectation.
A lie can create years of consequences.
Act
Today, speak deliberately.
Before saying something important, ask:
Is it true?
Is it necessary?
Is it constructive?
Reflect
What have my words cost other people?
DAY 14 — YOUR BODY KEEPS THE SCORE
Understand
Your body eventually responds to the way you treat it.
Act
Do three things today that your future body will thank you for:
- move
- eat consciously
- rest properly
Choose one unhealthy habit to reduce.
Reflect
What bill am I currently creating for my future body?
DAY 15 — HALF-WAY CHECK-IN
Stop.
Look back at the first fourteen days.
Act
Write answers to these questions:
What have I discovered about myself?
What surprised me?
What made me uncomfortable?
What do I need to change?
What am I avoiding?
Reflect
Am I becoming more conscious, or simply becoming better at understanding the problem?
DAY 16 — THE PEOPLE YOU TAKE FOR GRANTED
Understand
Sometimes the people closest to us receive the worst version of us.
We assume they will always be there.
Act
Choose three people you value.
Tell them specifically why they matter to you.
Not tomorrow.
Today.
Reflect
Who would I deeply regret losing without having told them what they mean to me?
DAY 17 — THE BILL OF RESENTMENT
Understand
Resentment has a cost.
It consumes energy while keeping you emotionally attached to something you claim you want to move beyond.
Act
Write down one resentment you are carrying.
Then answer:
What is this resentment costing me?
Reflect
What would I gain by releasing it?
DAY 18 — WHAT ARE YOU STILL TRYING TO PROVE?
Understand
Many people spend their lives paying enormous bills for approval.
They buy things they don’t need.
Stay in places they don’t belong.
Accept relationships that hurt them.
All because they are trying to prove something.
Act
Complete this sentence:
“I am still trying to prove that I am…”
Write until you reach the real answer.
Reflect
Who am I when I no longer need to prove myself?
DAY 19 — THE BILL OF EGO
Understand
Being right can sometimes cost more than being wrong.
Winning an argument can cost a relationship.
Protecting your pride can cost intimacy.
Act
Identify one situation where you need to let go of being right.
Reflect
Would I rather be right, or would I rather have peace?
DAY 20 — CHOOSE WHAT YOU WILL NO LONGER PAY FOR
Understand
Not every bill deserves to be paid again.
Some patterns need to end.
Act
Create your personal STOP LIST.
Write:
I will no longer pay for:
Reflect
Which one of these has cost me the most?
DAY 21 — CREATE YOUR NEW RULES
Understand
Changing your life requires more than good intentions.
It requires new standards.
Act
Create five personal rules.
For example:
I do not make important decisions when I am angry.
I do not promise what I cannot deliver.
I do not stay where I am repeatedly disrespected.
I speak the truth.
I take responsibility for my choices.
Reflect
What standard am I prepared to live by from today?
DAY 22 — PAY AN OLD BILL
Understand
Some things cannot be changed.
But some things can still be repaired.
Act
Identify one old obligation you can address.
It might be:
- a conversation
- an apology
- a debt
- a promise
- unfinished work
- a neglected relationship
- something you have been avoiding
Take one concrete step.
Reflect
How did it feel to finally do something about it?
DAY 23 — STOP CREATING NEW BILLS
Understand
Healing your past is important.
But if you continue making the same choices, you simply create another bill.
Act
Identify your three biggest repeating patterns.
For each one write:
Trigger → Behaviour → Consequence
Then identify one new response.
Reflect
What will I do differently the next time the trigger appears?
DAY 24 — THE PEOPLE WHO HELP YOU GROW
Understand
The people around you influence your choices, standards and behaviour.
Act
Identify:
Three people who bring out the best in me.
Three environments that bring out the best in me.
Three environments that bring out the worst in me.
Reflect
Where should I spend more of my time?
DAY 25 — WHAT REALLY MATTERS?
Understand
A meaningful life is not necessarily a life without problems.
It is a life where you know what matters.
Act
Write your five most important things.
Then compare them with how you actually spend your:
- time
- money
- attention
- energy
Reflect
Does the way I live reflect what I say matters to me?
DAY 26 — THE FUTURE BILL
Understand
Your future self will live with today’s decisions.
Act
Write a letter from yourself at age 80 to yourself today.
Begin:
“I wish you had understood this earlier…”
Let the older version of you speak.
Reflect
What would my future self beg me to change now?
DAY 27 — BUILD SOMETHING WORTH LEAVING
Understand
Your life is not only about what you consume.
It is also about what you contribute.
Act
Identify one thing you can give:
- knowledge
- time
- encouragement
- money
- mentorship
- kindness
- opportunity
- forgiveness
Give it without expecting repayment.
Reflect
What do I want people to remember about the way I lived?
DAY 28 — WRITE YOUR PERSONAL BILL OF LIFE
Understand
You now understand that every choice has a cost.
But every choice can also create value.
Act
Write your own personal statement:
I understand that…
I accept that…
I will no longer…
I will begin…
I will protect…
I will give…
I will become…
Reflect
What kind of person am I choosing to become?
DAY 29 — MAKE THE DECISION
Understand
There comes a point where reflection must end and decision must begin.
Act
Write this sentence:
“From this day forward, I choose…”
Then write at least ten commitments.
Make them practical.
Not:
“I will be happier.”
Instead:
“I will spend one hour every week with someone I love.”
Not:
“I will manage money better.”
Instead:
“I will review my finances every Sunday.”
Reflect
What is the one decision that could change the direction of my life?
DAY 30 — THE NEW BEGINNING
Understand
The purpose of these 30 days was never to create a perfect life.
It was to create a more conscious life.
You cannot undo every bill.
You cannot retrieve every lost opportunity.
You cannot change every consequence.
You cannot repair every relationship.
But you can decide what happens next.
Act
Stand somewhere quiet.
Read everything you have written during these 30 days.
Then complete these five statements:
The biggest thing I have learned is…
The bill I most need to settle is…
The behaviour I most need to change is…
The person I want to become is…
From today forward, I will…
Then sign and date it.
MY COMMITMENT
I understand now that my choices have consequences.
I understand that some bills arrive immediately and others arrive years later.
I understand that I cannot change everything that happened to me, but I can take responsibility for what I do with what happened.
I will stop using my past as an excuse for my future.
I will become more conscious of the choices I make.
I will think before I act.
I will consider the cost.
I will repair what I can repair.
I will release what I must release.
I will stop creating the same bills.
And I will begin building a life that I do not constantly have to recover from.
I cannot change yesterday.
But I can change today.
And what I do today will eventually become the bill—or the reward—of tomorrow.

AFTER THE 30 DAYS
The greatest mistake would be to finish this programme and return to the life you were living before it.
The 30 days were not the destination.
They were the interruption.
They were designed to interrupt unconscious living.
To make you stop.
To make you look.
To make you acknowledge.
To make you choose.
From here, create your own 30-day cycle.
At the beginning of every month, ask:
What bill am I creating?
What bill am I paying?
What bill am I avoiding?
What bill needs to be settled?
What value am I creating?
What choice will I make today that my future self will thank me for?
Because ultimately, this is what The Bill Book is asking of you:
Become conscious of the cost before you make the choice.
You do not have to live perfectly.
You simply have to start living deliberately.
Because every day you are writing another line on the bill of your life.
Make today’s line one you will be proud to read tomorrow.
