Radio Interview Preparation: Discovering the Seven Chakras
10 Questions and Answers for the Launch of the Book
The launch of a new book is an opportunity not only to introduce the book, but also to introduce the ideas behind it and, most importantly, to give listeners something practical that they can take into their own lives.
This interview guide has been prepared to help introduce Gerald Crawford’s new book and explain how the wisdom of the seven chakras can become a practical framework for greater self-awareness, balance and connection.
1. Gerald, congratulations on the launch of your new book. What is the book about?
The book is about understanding ourselves on a deeper level.
The seven chakras provide us with a fascinating framework for exploring different dimensions of our lives — from our physical needs and sense of safety to our emotions, personal power, relationships, communication, intuition and our sense of connection to something greater than ourselves.
What I wanted to do with this book was take something that many people may have heard about, but perhaps don’t fully understand, and make it practical.
This isn’t simply a book about chakras. It is about using the chakra system as a tool for self-awareness and personal growth.
2. Why did you choose the seven chakras as the central focus of the book?
Because the chakra system gives us a way of looking at the human experience as a whole.
We are not just a body. We have emotions, thoughts, relationships, beliefs, experiences and a spiritual dimension.
The seven chakras provide seven areas that we can explore within ourselves. They can encourage us to ask important questions:
How safe do I feel?
How do I experience my emotions?
How much personal power do I have?
How do I give and receive love?
How do I communicate?
How do I see and understand my life?
What gives my life meaning and connection?
Those questions can become a powerful starting point for self-reflection.
3. Many people have heard the word “chakra”, but don’t really understand what it means. How would you explain it simply?
I would explain a chakra as a traditional concept describing an energetic centre within the human system.
The word comes from ancient Indian traditions and is commonly translated from Sanskrit as “wheel” or “disc.”
In the book, I use the seven-chakra model as a reflective framework. It gives us different areas of human experience to examine.
So rather than asking someone to simply believe something, I encourage them to explore:
“What does this teach me about myself?”
That is where the real value begins.
4. Is this book religious or spiritual?
The book explores spirituality, but it isn’t intended to tell people what they must believe.
Spirituality can mean different things to different people.
For one person it may involve religion. For another it may be meditation, nature, consciousness, connection, purpose or simply developing a deeper understanding of themselves.
The book creates space for exploration.
My intention is not to tell people what to believe. It is to encourage them to become more aware of what they experience, what they believe and how those beliefs influence the way they live.
5. How can understanding the chakras actually help someone in everyday life?
The greatest value is in self-awareness.
For example, if I constantly feel unsafe, fearful or insecure, I can begin exploring what is happening in that area of my life.
If I struggle to express my emotions, I can explore my relationship with emotion.
If I constantly give my power away to other people, I can ask myself why.
If I struggle with relationships, love or connection, I can examine the patterns I have developed.
The chakra framework gives us different doors through which we can enter our own self-exploration.
And once we become aware, we have something incredibly important:
choice.
6. You often speak about healing and personal transformation. What role does awareness play in healing?
Awareness is often the beginning of change.
We cannot change something we don’t recognise.
Many people live according to patterns that developed over many years. Something happened, we adapted, we developed a way of coping, and eventually that pattern became normal.
The journey can be:
I survived.
I adapted.
I developed patterns.
I became aware.
I discovered choice.
And now I choose.
That is a very important message in this book.
Awareness doesn’t mean that everything immediately changes. It means we can begin seeing ourselves differently and making more conscious choices.
7. What makes this book different from simply reading about the seven chakras?
I wanted the book to move beyond information.
Knowledge is valuable, but knowledge becomes much more meaningful when we can apply it.
That is why the latter part of the book focuses on practical application.
The reader is encouraged to reflect, ask questions, observe patterns and consider what changes could be made in everyday life.
The real question isn’t simply:
“What is my chakra?”
The deeper question is:
“What is happening in my life, and what can I learn from becoming more aware of it?”
8. Who is this book written for?
It is written for anyone who is curious about themselves.
You don’t need to be an expert in spirituality. You don’t need to have studied chakras before.
It may appeal to someone who feels stuck, disconnected, overwhelmed or simply curious about personal growth.
It may also be useful for people who already work in areas such as wellness, personal development, counselling, coaching, healing or education.
Ultimately, though, the book is for anyone willing to stop for a moment and ask:
“What is really happening inside me?”
9. If someone listening today feels disconnected from themselves, where should they begin?
Begin with observation.
Don’t immediately try to fix yourself.
Take a moment and become curious about yourself.
Ask:
How am I feeling?
Where do I feel it in my body?
What am I thinking?
What relationships are affecting me?
What am I afraid of?
What do I need?
What am I avoiding?
What gives me energy?
What takes my energy away?
And perhaps most importantly:
“What am I ready to become aware of?”
You don’t have to transform your entire life in one day.
Sometimes one honest question can begin the process.
10. What is the one message you would like listeners to take away from this book?
I would say:
You are more than the circumstances you have experienced.
Your past may have influenced you, but it does not have to define every choice you make in the future.
The seven chakras provide a way of exploring different dimensions of ourselves — our body, emotions, relationships, personal power, communication, awareness and spirituality.
My hope is that readers don’t simply finish the book with more information.
I hope they finish it with more awareness of themselves.
Because when awareness increases, choice becomes possible.
And when we discover choice, we can begin creating a different experience of our lives.
A Final Message for the Radio Audience
If you have ever felt that something in your life is out of balance, perhaps the answer isn’t always to look further outside yourself.
Sometimes the most important journey is inward.
The seven chakras can provide seven different perspectives through which we can explore who we are, what we have experienced, what patterns we have developed and what choices are available to us now.
The journey begins with awareness.
Awareness creates choice.
And choice creates the possibility for change.
