Choose Your Ink
Every life is a story.
From the moment we are born, experiences begin to leave their marks on the pages of our lives. Some pages are filled with love, compassion, acceptance and hope. Others carry the darker stains of fear, judgment, rejection, pain, betrayal and disappointment.
But what if the most important question is not what has happened to us, but what ink we choose to use to write what comes next?
This is the story of Gerald—a journey from childhood to the age of sixty-one. A life shaped by experiences he did not always choose, circumstances he could not always control, and emotions that sometimes became the ink with which his story was written.
For much of his early life, Gerald allowed other people, circumstances and painful experiences to hold the pen. Fear wrote some chapters. Judgment wrote others. Rejection, disappointment and pain left their marks.
But eventually, something changed.
Gerald realised that although he could not rewrite the pages that had already been written, he could choose what ink he would use for the pages still to come.
Love or fear.
Compassion or judgment.
Forgiveness or resentment.
Courage or avoidance.
Acceptance or rejection.
Choose Your Ink is more than a life story. It is an invitation to examine the story you are writing with your own life.
Through Gerald’s journey, readers are encouraged to look at the experiences that have shaped them, recognise the emotional ink they have been using, and understand how their choices influence the relationships they have, the way they see themselves, and the future they create.
The book does not suggest that pain should be ignored or that difficult experiences do not matter. Instead, it asks a deeper question:
Will you allow your pain to determine the rest of your story, or will you choose a different ink?
Because we cannot always choose what happens to us.
But we can choose what we do with what happens to us.
At sixty-one, Gerald begins to understand that his story is not finished. The pen is still in his hand.
And so is yours.
Choose Your Ink is ultimately a message of personal responsibility, healing, self-awareness and hope. It reminds us that the past may explain our story, but it does not have to write our future.
The pages ahead are still blank.
The pen is in your hand.
The choice of ink is yours.
