Hypnotherapy Script for Insomnia

Here’s a gentle, professional hypnotherapy script designed for an elderly client experiencing insomnia. It uses a calm pace, reassuring language, and positive suggestions while avoiding assumptions about the cause of the sleep difficulties.

Hypnotherapy Script for Insomnia (Elderly Client)

Duration: Approximately 25–30 minutes

“Please make yourself as comfortable as you can. There is nothing you need to do and nowhere else you need to be. This is your time to rest, to let go, and to allow your mind and body to remember how to sleep naturally.

Take a slow, comfortable breath in… and gently breathe out. Again… breathing in calm… and breathing out any tension.

With every breath, your body begins to soften. Your shoulders relax. Your neck relaxes. Your face becomes smooth and peaceful. Your jaw loosens. Your arms feel pleasantly heavy and comfortable. Your hands relax completely.

Allow this feeling of relaxation to flow through your chest… your back… your stomach… your hips… your legs… all the way down to your feet.

As your body relaxes, your mind can also begin to quieten. Thoughts may come and go like clouds drifting across the sky. There is no need to hold onto them. Simply notice them… and let them pass.

Now imagine yourself standing at the top of ten gentle steps leading down into a peaceful garden. With every step you take, you feel twice as relaxed.

Ten… relaxing…
Nine… letting go…
Eight… peaceful…
Seven… calm…
Six… deeper relaxed…
Five… halfway down…
Four… safe…
Three… comfortable…
Two… almost there…
One… deeply relaxed.

You find yourself in a beautiful garden. It feels familiar, safe, and peaceful. The air is fresh. The temperature is perfect. You hear gentle birdsong or the soft rustling of leaves in the breeze.

Somewhere in this garden is a comfortable bench. Sit there for a moment and notice how peaceful everything feels. Here, there is no pressure. No urgency. No expectations. Just peace.

Your body remembers how to rest.

Your mind remembers how to become quiet.

Your brain remembers how to sleep.

Sleep is not something you force. Sleep is something you allow.

Every evening, as bedtime approaches, your body naturally begins preparing for sleep. Your breathing slows. Your muscles soften. Your heartbeat settles into a calm rhythm.

If you wake during the night, you remain calm. You know it is perfectly normal. Instead of becoming concerned, you simply allow yourself to rest. Rest is healing, even before sleep returns.

You trust your body.

You trust your mind.

You trust the natural rhythm that has always existed within you.

Each night becomes a little easier.

Each week your sleep becomes deeper, more refreshing, and more restorative.

Your bedroom becomes a place of comfort, peace, and safety.

Your bed becomes associated with relaxation and restful sleep.

As your head touches the pillow, your body remembers this peaceful feeling.

Your mind gently switches off unnecessary thoughts.

You drift naturally into healthy, comfortable sleep.

Every morning you wake feeling a little more refreshed.

A little more energetic.

A little more hopeful.

Your confidence in your ability to sleep grows stronger each day.

Take a few moments now simply to enjoy this peaceful feeling…

(Long pause.)

In a few moments, I will count from one to five. You will return feeling calm, refreshed, peaceful, and confident, knowing that tonight your body will naturally move towards restful sleep.

One… bringing back gentle awareness.

Two… energy returning to your body.

Three… breathing comfortably and naturally.

Four… becoming more alert while remaining wonderfully relaxed.

Five… eyes open when you’re ready… feeling calm, refreshed, peaceful, and carrying this deep sense of relaxation with you throughout the rest of your day.

Tonight, sleep comes naturally… peacefully… and easily.”If you use this script in practice, tailor the pacing, pauses, imagery, and suggestions to the client’s preferences, medical history, hearing ability, and cognitive status. For chronic insomnia lasting several months or insomnia associated with significant depression, anxiety, sleep apnoea, pain, or medication side effects, hypnotherapy is best used alongside appropriate medical assessment and treatment.
