A Practical Method for Reclaiming Your Time, Restoring Your Relationship With Your Health, and Living More Intentionally
The information in this book is only valuable if it changes the way we live.
Understanding that time is limited doesn’t automatically make us use it wisely.
Understanding that health matters doesn’t automatically make us take better care of our bodies.
Knowledge must become practice.
That is why this healing modality has been created.
It is a practical process for taking the principles in You Only Have So Much Time — Time and Health, the Two Things That You Cannot Replace and turning them into daily choices.
It is not about becoming perfect.
It is about becoming more aware, more intentional and more responsible for the life you have been given.
THE FIVE-STAGE HEALING PROCESS
The modality follows five stages:
1. AWARENESS
See where your life is going.
2. RELEASE
Let go of what is consuming your time and damaging your wellbeing.
3. RESTORE
Rebuild the foundations of your physical, mental and emotional wellbeing.
4. REALIGN
Put your time and health behind what genuinely matters.
5. LIVE
Turn your new awareness into a way of life.
These five stages can be repeated throughout your life.
STAGE ONE — AWARENESS
Stop and Look
You cannot change your life until you are willing to look honestly at it.
For seven days, don’t try to change everything.
Simply observe.
Record where your time goes.
Record how you feel.
Record how you treat your body.
Record what gives you energy and what takes it away.
Ask yourself every evening:
Where did my time go today?
What did I spend time on that mattered?
What did I spend time on that didn’t matter?
Who received my attention?
What affected my peace?
How did I take care of my body today?
How did I sleep?
Did I move my body?
What did I eat and drink?
What am I grateful for?
What would I do differently tomorrow?
Don’t judge your answers.
Observe them.
Awareness comes before healing.
STAGE TWO — RELEASE
Stop Carrying What You Don’t Need
Once you understand where your time and energy are going, begin removing what doesn’t belong.
This may include:
- unnecessary commitments
- unhealthy habits
- excessive screen time
- constant comparison
- unnecessary arguments
- resentment
- living in the past
- seeking everyone’s approval
- relationships that continually drain you
- excessive worry about things you cannot control
You don’t have to remove everything immediately.
Start with one thing.
Ask:
“Is this worth the time and health it is costing me?”
If the answer is no, begin creating distance from it.
The release exercise
Write down three things:
I need to let go of…
I need to stop giving my time to…
I need to stop allowing this to control my health or peace…
Then choose one practical action.
Healing requires action.
STAGE THREE — RESTORE
Rebuild Your Foundations
You cannot live intentionally if your body and mind are constantly exhausted.
Restoration begins with the basics.
Sleep
Give sleep the respect it deserves.
Create a consistent sleep routine where possible.
Reduce unnecessary stimulation before bed.
Give your body an opportunity to recover.
Movement
Move according to your abilities and circumstances.
Walk.
Stretch.
Exercise.
Swim.
Cycle.
Garden.
Play.
The goal isn’t necessarily athletic performance.
The goal is to keep participating in life.
If you have health concerns or limitations, seek appropriate professional advice about what is safe for you.
Nutrition
Become more conscious of what you put into your body.
Choose nourishing foods more often.
Drink enough fluids.
Reduce patterns of eating that consistently leave you feeling unwell.
Food is not simply something you consume.
It contributes to the body you have to live in.
Recovery
You are not designed to operate continuously.
Rest is not laziness.
Recovery is part of health.
Create periods where you aren’t working, producing, solving or responding.
Mental restoration
Your mind also needs space.
Reduce unnecessary information.
Spend time away from screens.
Walk.
Read.
Reflect.
Pray or meditate if that is meaningful to you.
Spend time in nature.
Allow your mind to become quiet.
STAGE FOUR — REALIGN
Put Your Time Where Your Values Are
Now ask the most important question:
“What actually matters to me?”
Write down your five most important priorities.
For example:
- Health
- Family
- Relationships
- Purpose
- Peace
Then look at your calendar.
Does your calendar reflect those priorities?
If health is important but you never make time for it, your calendar is telling you something.
If family is important but everyone receives only your leftover time, your calendar is telling you something.
If peace is important but your life is filled with unnecessary conflict, something needs to change.
The alignment exercise
Complete these sentences:
I want to spend more time on…
I want to spend less time on…
I want to improve my health by…
I need to establish a boundary around…
I want to reconnect with…
I want to stop postponing…
Then choose one action from each category.
STAGE FIVE — LIVE
Turn Awareness Into a Lifestyle
The final stage is the most important.
Live.
Don’t become so focused on improving your life that you forget to experience it.
Be present.
Enjoy your food.
Take the walk.
Watch the sunset.
Talk to someone you love.
Travel when you can.
Laugh.
Rest.
Create memories.
Do meaningful work.
Help someone.
Spend time with people who matter.
Use your health while you have it.
Use your time while you have it.
THE DAILY TIME & HEALTH PRACTICE
The modality can be simplified into a daily practice of five questions.
Every morning ask:
1. What matters today?
Choose the things that deserve your attention.
2. How will I protect my health today?
Choose one physical or mental health action.
3. Where will I give my time?
Be intentional about your priorities.
4. What will I refuse to waste time on?
Identify one distraction, argument, worry or unnecessary commitment you can avoid.
5. How will I experience today?
Choose something you will consciously enjoy.
Then, at night, ask:
Did I live today—or did I simply get through it?
THE WEEKLY RESET
Once a week, take approximately 30 minutes to review your life.
TIME
Where did my time go?
What was valuable?
What was wasted?
HEALTH
How did I treat my body?
How did I sleep?
How did I move?
How did I nourish myself?
RELATIONSHIPS
Who did I spend time with?
Who needs my attention?
Who continually drains me?
MIND
What occupied my thoughts?
What am I worrying about unnecessarily?
What do I need to release?
PURPOSE
Did I do something meaningful?
Did I move toward something important?
NEXT WEEK
What will I:
Start?
Stop?
Continue?
This simple review keeps you from drifting through life unconsciously.
THE 24-HOUR TIME AUDIT
Once a month, take one ordinary day and account for your time.
Write down approximately how you spent each hour.
Then divide your time into four categories:
NECESSARY
Things you genuinely need to do.
MEANINGFUL
Things that contribute to your relationships, purpose, growth or wellbeing.
RESTORATIVE
Things that genuinely restore you.
WASTED
Things you did mainly from habit, distraction or avoidance.
Don’t feel guilty about the results.
Use the information.
The purpose of the audit is not to create guilt.
It is to create awareness.
THE HEALTH AUDIT
Once a month, ask yourself:
BODY
Am I moving regularly?
SLEEP
Am I giving myself enough opportunity to sleep and recover?
FOOD
Are my eating patterns supporting my wellbeing?
STRESS
What is continually draining me?
MIND
What am I repeatedly thinking about?
CONNECTION
Am I spending meaningful time with people?
PROFESSIONAL CARE
Are there health concerns that I should discuss with an appropriate healthcare professional?
The goal isn’t self-diagnosis.
The goal is responsibility.
THE “IS IT WORTH MY TIME?” QUESTION
This can become one of the most powerful tools in the entire modality.
Before giving something your time, ask:
“Is this worth a piece of my life?”
Before entering an argument:
Is this worth my time?
Before endlessly scrolling:
Is this worth my time?
Before accepting another commitment:
Is this worth my time?
Before worrying about something outside your control:
Is this worth my time?
Before spending an evening with someone you love:
Is this worth my time?
The answer changes depending on the situation.
But asking the question creates awareness.
THE “WILL THIS HELP MY HEALTH?” QUESTION
Use the same principle with your health.
Before a decision, ask:
“Is this helping or harming the body and mind that I have to live with?”
This doesn’t mean every decision must be perfectly healthy.
Life includes celebration.
Enjoyment.
Rest.
Indulgence.
The goal is not obsession.
The goal is the overall direction of your choices.
THE THREE CIRCLES
Another useful exercise is to divide your life into three circles.
CIRCLE ONE — CONTROL
What can I directly control?
My choices.
My habits.
My response.
My boundaries.
Where I place my attention.
CIRCLE TWO — INFLUENCE
What can I influence but not control completely?
Relationships.
Work.
Family situations.
Other people’s decisions.
CIRCLE THREE — RELEASE
What cannot reasonably be controlled?
The past.
Other people’s opinions.
Certain circumstances.
Things that have already happened.
Your energy should be concentrated primarily on Circle One.
That is where your greatest power exists.
THE HEALING STATEMENT
Read this slowly:
I cannot change yesterday.
I cannot guarantee tomorrow.
But I have today.
I will respect my time.
I will care for my health.
I will be intentional about what I allow into my life.
I will spend more time on what matters.
I will release what continually drains me.
I will stop waiting for the perfect moment.
I will be present for the people I love.
I will listen to my body.
I will make responsible choices.
I will forgive where I can.
I will learn from my past without living there.
I will prepare for the future without missing today.
I will stop giving my life away to things that don’t matter.
I will use the time and health I have to live the best life I reasonably can.
THE 30-DAY TIME & HEALTH RESET
To turn the modality into action, practise it for 30 days.
WEEK ONE — AWARENESS
Don’t try to change everything.
Track your time.
Observe your habits.
Notice your energy.
Notice your health.
Notice what repeatedly consumes your attention.
WEEK TWO — RELEASE
Choose three things to reduce or remove.
Perhaps:
- unnecessary screen time
- unhealthy commitments
- excessive worry
- unnecessary conflict
- poor sleep habits
- a habit that continually drains you
WEEK THREE — RESTORE
Focus on your foundations.
Sleep.
Movement.
Nutrition.
Rest.
Connection.
Mental space.
WEEK FOUR — REALIGN
Decide what deserves more of your life.
Create time for it.
Protect it.
Then continue living intentionally.
THE FINAL PRINCIPLE
This modality is not about squeezing every possible experience out of every minute.
That would simply create another form of pressure.
It is about something much deeper:
Being awake to your life.
Knowing where your time goes.
Knowing how you are treating your health.
Knowing who matters.
Knowing what matters.
Knowing what needs to be released.
Knowing what deserves your attention.
And then making choices accordingly.
Because healing is not always about fixing something that is broken.
Sometimes healing means returning to what matters.
Returning to your body.
Returning to the present.
Returning to your values.
Returning to the people you love.
Returning to your purpose.
Returning to yourself.
And perhaps most importantly:
returning to your life.
You cannot stop the clock.
You cannot guarantee how long your health will remain.
You cannot control everything that happens.
But you can choose what you do with the time you have.
You can choose how you care for the body you have.
You can choose what receives your attention.
You can choose what you release.
You can choose what you protect.
And you can choose to live.
You only have so much time.
You only have so much health.
Don’t wait until you lose them to discover their value.
Use them. Protect them. Appreciate them.
And live intentionally, one day at a time.
