Here is a 30-day action plan should turn the central message of The Place Where We Get Stuck: Choosing Between Hunger and Thirst from an idea into a lived practice.
The goal is not simply to understand your hunger and thirst, but to learn to choose, act, accept the price of that choice, and stop dying in the space between two possibilities.
30-Day Action Plan
From Being Stuck to Choosing
The Purpose
Every day we are confronted with choices.
We hunger for one thing and thirst for another. We want security but also freedom. We want success but also peace. We want change but fear what change will cost us.
And sometimes the greatest decision we make is not deciding at all.
This 30-day journey is designed to help you identify what you truly want, understand what is keeping you stuck, make deliberate choices, and begin living with the consequences of those choices.
The objective is simple:
Stop standing between the water and the carrots. Choose. Move. Live.
WEEK ONE — WAKE UP
Days 1–7: Recognising Where You Are Stuck
The first week is about awareness.
You cannot change what you have not recognised.
Day 1 — Where Am I Stuck?
Take an honest look at your life.
Write down three areas where you feel stuck.
They might include:
- Career
- Relationships
- Finances
- Health
- Spirituality
- Personal growth
- Business
- Family
- Dreams
- Decisions you have been avoiding
For each one, complete:
“I know I need to ________, but I haven’t.”
Don’t explain it away.
Just tell yourself the truth.
Action: Identify your three biggest areas of indecision.
Day 2 — What Am I Hungry For?
Today, explore your hunger.
Ask:
What do I really want?
Not what others want for you.
Not what society says you should want.
Not what would make you look successful.
What do you genuinely hunger for?
Write down ten things.
Then reduce the list to your three deepest desires.
Action: Identify your three strongest hungers.
Day 3 — What Am I Thirsty For?
Now look at your thirst.
Thirst represents another kind of need: something essential, immediate and sustaining.
Ask:
- What do I need right now?
- What is missing from my life?
- What would restore me?
- What would bring me peace?
- What would make me feel alive again?
Write your answers.
Then ask:
Is what I want the same as what I need?
Action: Identify your three greatest needs.
Day 4 — The Cost of Staying Still
Sometimes we focus so much on the cost of choosing that we forget there is also a cost to not choosing.
Ask:
What is my indecision costing me?
Consider:
- Time
- Money
- Opportunities
- Relationships
- Confidence
- Health
- Peace
- Self-respect
- Growth
Write:
“If I remain exactly where I am for another year, what will happen?”
Be brutally honest.
Day 5 — The Fear Behind the Choice
Behind many forms of procrastination is fear.
Ask:
What am I afraid will happen if I choose?
Perhaps you fear:
- Failure
- Rejection
- Losing something
- Making the wrong decision
- Disappointing someone
- Looking foolish
- Being judged
- Success itself
- Change
Name the fear.
Then write:
“My fear is telling me ________.”
And:
“But the truth may be ________.”
Day 6 — Too Many Choices
Today, examine the number of choices competing for your attention.
Write down everything you are currently considering doing, changing, pursuing or becoming.
Then divide the list into three categories:
NOW
Things requiring action.
LATER
Things worth keeping but not acting on now.
NOT MINE
Things you can release.
Your goal is to reduce noise.
Action: Eliminate at least three unnecessary choices.
Day 7 — The Decision Inventory
Review everything you have discovered.
Choose one decision that you have been avoiding.
Write:
“The decision I need to make is…”
Then write:
“I have been avoiding it because…”
Don’t make the decision yet.
Today is about seeing it clearly.
WEEK TWO — CHOOSE
Days 8–14: Moving From Thinking to Deciding
The second week is about choice.
You are no longer simply observing your life.
You are beginning to direct it.
Day 8 — What Matters Most?
List your five most important values.
For example:
- Family
- Freedom
- Faith
- Integrity
- Health
- Love
- Growth
- Contribution
- Security
- Adventure
Now ask:
Are my current choices aligned with these values?
Circle anything that isn’t.
Day 9 — The Two Roads
Take your major decision and draw two paths.
PATH A
If I choose this…
Write what your life could look like in:
- 30 days
- 6 months
- 1 year
- 5 years
PATH B
If I don’t choose this…
Do the same.
Now compare the two futures.
Day 10 — What Will It Cost?
Every meaningful choice has a price.
Ask:
What will this choice require me to give up?
Maybe it costs:
- Comfort
- Time
- Money
- Familiarity
- Approval
- Convenience
- A relationship
- An old identity
Write the price down.
Then ask:
Am I willing to pay it?
Day 11 — Make the Decision
Today you choose.
Not perfectly.
Not with absolute certainty.
But deliberately.
Complete this sentence:
“I choose ________ because ________.”
Then write:
“The price I am willing to pay is ________.”
And:
“The first action I will take is ________.”
Day 12 — Tell Someone
A decision becomes more powerful when it moves from your head into the world.
Tell one trusted person what you have decided.
Don’t ask them to make the decision for you.
Simply tell them:
“This is what I have chosen.”
Action: Make your decision public to at least one person.
Day 13 — Take the First Step
Do something today that proves your decision is real.
Not tomorrow.
Today.
Make the call.
Send the email.
Book the appointment.
Start the project.
Have the conversation.
Cancel what needs cancelling.
Apply.
Register.
Write.
Pray.
Move.
Action: One concrete action.
Day 14 — Celebrate Movement
Stop and acknowledge yourself.
You don’t need to have reached the destination.
You have done something more important:
You moved.
Write down:
- What I chose
- What I did
- What I learned
- How I feel
WEEK THREE — PAY THE PRICE
Days 15–21: Living With Your Choice
Choosing is only the beginning.
The real transformation happens when we remain committed after the excitement disappears.
Day 15 — Expect Resistance
Write down everything that could tempt you to return to your old way.
Then prepare your response.
For example:
“When I feel like quitting, I will remember why I started.”
Day 16 — Remove One Distraction
Identify one thing that repeatedly pulls you away from your chosen direction.
Remove it for seven days.
It could be:
- Social media
- Excessive television
- Unnecessary commitments
- Negative conversations
- Certain habits
- Constant comparison
Action: Remove one source of distraction.
Day 17 — Replace, Don’t Just Remove
Removing something creates space.
Now fill that space with something meaningful.
Replace:
- Scrolling with reading
- Complaining with gratitude
- Avoidance with action
- Fear with learning
- Isolation with connection
- Procrastination with a five-minute start
Action: Install one positive replacement habit.
Day 18 — Keep One Promise
Make one small promise to yourself today.
Then keep it.
It doesn’t need to be impressive.
The purpose is to rebuild self-trust.
Write:
“Today I said I would ________, and I did it.”
Day 19 — Do Something Difficult
Choose something you have been avoiding because it is uncomfortable.
Do it.
Not because you enjoy discomfort.
Because growth often lives on the other side of it.
Day 20 — Forgive Yourself
You may discover that some of your past indecision came from fear, confusion, pain or simply not knowing better.
Don’t use awareness as another weapon against yourself.
Write:
“I forgive myself for…”
Then:
“I choose to learn from it by…”
Day 21 — Review the Price
Ask yourself:
What has my choice already cost me?
And:
What has my choice already given me?
This is important.
The price of a choice should not be judged without considering its reward.
WEEK FOUR — BECOME A CHOOSER
Days 22–30: Turning Choice Into a Way of Life
The final week is about creating a new relationship with decision-making.
You don’t want to complete 30 days and return to the same life.
You want to become someone who chooses deliberately.
Day 22 — Your Decision Rules
Create five personal rules for making decisions.
For example:
- I don’t make important decisions from fear.
- I don’t allow too many choices to paralyse me.
- I don’t confuse comfort with happiness.
- I accept that every meaningful choice has a price.
- When I know what I need to do, I act.
Write your own five.
Day 23 — The 24-Hour Rule
Choose one decision you’ve been postponing unnecessarily.
Give yourself 24 hours.
At the end of those 24 hours:
Choose.
This isn’t about rushing important decisions.
It is about refusing to use “thinking” as an excuse for avoidance.
Day 24 — Your Yes and Your No
Write two lists.
MY YES
What deserves more of your time?
MY NO
What no longer deserves your time?
Your life becomes clearer when your yes and your no become clearer.
Day 25 — Stop Seeking Permission
Ask yourself:
Whose permission am I waiting for?
Then ask:
Do I actually need it?
Sometimes we remain stuck because we are waiting for somebody else to validate a decision that belongs to us.
Day 26 — Choose Your Future Self
Imagine yourself five years from now.
Ask:
What would that person thank me for doing today?
Then do one of those things.
Day 27 — The One-Year Decision
Imagine that today is one year from now.
Complete:
“I am so grateful that I finally chose to ________.”
Now work backwards.
What must you do this month?
This week?
Today?
Day 28 — Create Your Personal Action Plan
Choose your five most important actions for the next 90 days.
For each one write:
What?
Why?
When?
First step?
What could stop me?
What will I do when that happens?
Day 29 — Write Your Personal Declaration
Write a declaration about the person you are becoming.
Begin with:
“I am no longer willing to remain stuck…”
Then describe:
- What you choose
- What you value
- What you will no longer tolerate
- What you are willing to sacrifice
- What kind of life you intend to create
Read it aloud.
Day 30 — Choose Again
The final day is not really an ending.
It is the beginning.
Look back over the previous 29 days.
Ask yourself:
What have I learned about myself?
What have I stopped avoiding?
What have I chosen?
What has changed?
What still needs to change?
And finally:
What will I choose now?
Write your answer.
Then take one action before the day ends.
The Daily 5-Minute Practice
After completing the 30-day program, continue this simple practice every day.
Every morning ask:
1. What am I hungry for today?
What do I desire?
2. What am I thirsty for today?
What do I genuinely need?
3. What choice matters today?
What decision deserves my attention?
4. What action will I take?
What will I actually do?
5. What am I willing to pay?
What discomfort, discipline or sacrifice might this require?
Then act.
The 30-Day Transformation
The journey can be understood in four movements:
Days 1–7 — AWARENESS
I see where I am stuck.
Days 8–14 — CHOICE
I decide what matters.
Days 15–21 — COMMITMENT
I accept the price of my choice.
Days 22–30 — IDENTITY
I become someone who chooses.
And that is ultimately the deeper message of the book:
Your life does not change merely because you know what you want.
Your life changes when you choose—and then live according to that choice.
The donkey doesn’t die because there is no food.
The donkey doesn’t die because there is no water.
The donkey dies because it cannot choose.
The purpose of this 30-day journey is to teach you to choose.
