Teaching Modality: BECOME: The Identity Behind Your Results – A Book by Gerald Crawford (2026). – Change who you believe you are, and you change what your life can become.

THE BECOME WISDOM TEACHING MODALITY

From Identity to Transformation

Core Wisdom:

Your life does not consistently rise to the level of your intentions. It tends to return to the level of the identity you believe you are.

The BECOME teaching modality is built around one fundamental understanding:

If you want different results, you cannot only change what you do. You must examine and transform who you believe you are.

Our identity influences our beliefs.
Our beliefs influence our thoughts.
Our thoughts influence our choices.
Our choices influence our behaviour.
Our behaviour produces our results.

Therefore:

Identity → Belief → Thought → Choice → Behaviour → Result

But the process does not stop there.

Our results then become evidence that reinforces our identity.

Result → Interpretation → Identity

This creates either an empowering or limiting cycle.

THE FIVE WISDOM PRINCIPLES

1. THE WISDOM OF IDENTITY

Before asking:

“What do I need to do?”

Ask:

“Who do I need to become?”

Many people attempt to change their lives by changing their behaviour while keeping the same internal identity.

They say:

“I want to be successful.”

But internally they identify as someone who always fails.

They say:

“I want a healthy relationship.”

But they identify as someone who is unlovable.

They say:

“I want financial abundance.”

But they identify as someone who is always struggling.

The behaviour may change temporarily, but the old identity eventually pulls the person back toward familiar patterns.

Teaching Question

Who have I decided that I am?

Then ask:

Who would I need to become to create the life I say I want?

2. THE WISDOM OF BELIEF

Identity creates beliefs.

A person does not simply experience reality.

They experience reality through the beliefs they carry about themselves and the world.

Two people can experience the same situation and create completely different meanings from it.

One sees rejection.

Another sees redirection.

One sees failure.

Another sees feedback.

One sees an ending.

Another sees a beginning.

The event may be identical.

The identity interpreting the event is different.

Therefore, transformation requires us to examine the beliefs supporting our current identity.

Teaching Questions

  • What do I believe about myself?
  • Where did I learn this belief?
  • Is this belief still serving me?
  • What evidence have I used to support it?
  • What evidence have I ignored?
  • What would I believe if I no longer needed to protect my old identity?

3. THE WISDOM OF CHOICE

There is a powerful space between what happens to us and what we choose to do with what happens.

This is where transformation begins.

We cannot always choose our circumstances.

But we can increasingly become conscious of how we respond to them.

The question changes from:

“Why is this happening to me?”

to:

“Who am I choosing to be in response to this?”

That question returns personal power to the individual.

Teaching Principle

You may not control every event, but you can develop greater responsibility for the identity you bring to the event.

4. THE WISDOM OF BEHAVIOUR

Behaviour is the visible expression of identity.

What you repeatedly do tells a story about what you believe about yourself.

If someone believes:

“I am disciplined,”

discipline becomes easier to practise.

If someone believes:

“I always give up,”

giving up becomes consistent with their identity.

This does not mean behaviour is effortless.

It means behaviour becomes more sustainable when it is aligned with identity.

Therefore, instead of saying:

“I need to force myself to behave differently,”

begin asking:

“What would a person who has become this version of themselves naturally begin doing?”

5. THE WISDOM OF BECOMING

BECOME is not about creating a perfect version of yourself.

It is about consciously participating in your own evolution.

You are not required to become someone else.

You are required to become more intentional about who you are becoming.

The question is therefore not:

“Who am I?”

but also:

“Who am I becoming?”

Every decision is contributing to the answer.

Every habit is contributing.

Every relationship is contributing.

Every thought is contributing.

Every time you say yes or no, you are reinforcing an identity.

THE BECOME TEACHING PROCESS

The modality can be taught through six stages:

1. RECOGNISE

Become aware of the identity you currently carry.

“Who am I being?”

2. REVEAL

Identify the beliefs, stories and assumptions supporting that identity.

“What have I come to believe about myself?”

3. RELEASE

Question identities that were created through fear, rejection, failure, comparison or past experiences.

“What am I ready to stop carrying?”

4. REDEFINE

Choose a more empowering identity aligned with the person you want to become.

“Who do I choose to become?”

5. REINFORCE

Begin behaving in ways that provide evidence for the new identity.

“What would this version of me do today?”

6. BECOME

Repeat the process until the new identity becomes increasingly natural and integrated.

“How do I live as the person I have chosen to become?”

THE IDENTITY MIRROR

A powerful exercise within this modality is the Identity Mirror.

Ask the participant to complete these statements:

I believe I am…

I believe I am not…

People see me as…

I have always been someone who…

I could never be someone who…

I am afraid that people will discover that I…

If I truly believed in myself, I would…

If I knew I could not fail, I would…

The identity I have been carrying is…

Then ask:

“Is this who you truly are, or is this who you have learned to believe you are?”

That question can become a profound turning point.

THE BECOMING STATEMENT

The participant then creates a personal BECOMING STATEMENT.

It should not simply describe what they want to achieve.

It should describe who they are choosing to become.

For example:

“I am becoming a confident, courageous and intentional person who trusts myself, honours my values and takes responsibility for the life I am creating.”

The statement becomes a compass rather than merely an affirmation.

THE EVIDENCE PRINCIPLE

A new identity needs evidence.

You cannot simply say:

“I am confident.”

You must begin creating experiences that demonstrate confidence.

You cannot simply say:

“I am disciplined.”

You must practise discipline.

You cannot simply say:

“I value myself.”

You must make choices that demonstrate self-respect.

Therefore:

Every aligned action becomes evidence of the person you are becoming.

This is one of the most important teachings in the BECOME modality.

THE DAILY BECOME QUESTION

At the beginning of each day, ask:

“Who am I choosing to be today?”

Then ask:

What would that person think?

What would that person believe?

How would that person speak?

What would that person tolerate?

What would that person refuse?

What decision would that person make?

What action would that person take today?

At the end of the day ask:

“Did my choices today provide evidence of who I say I am becoming?”

This transforms identity from an idea into a daily practice.

THE ULTIMATE WISDOM

The deepest teaching of BECOME is this:

You are not simply living your life. You are continually teaching yourself who you are.

Every repeated thought says something about you.

Every repeated behaviour says something about you.

Every boundary says something about you.

Every relationship says something about you.

Every choice says something about you.

And eventually, the evidence accumulates.

You begin believing the story you have repeatedly demonstrated.

Therefore, if you want to change your results, begin changing the evidence.

If you want to change the evidence, change your behaviour.

If you want to change your behaviour sustainably, examine your identity.

And if your identity no longer serves the life you want to create:

Choose again.

THE BECOME FORMULA

WHO I BELIEVE I AM

↓

WHAT I BELIEVE IS POSSIBLE

↓

WHAT I EXPECT

↓

WHAT I CHOOSE

↓

WHAT I DO

↓

WHAT I REPEATEDLY DO

↓

THE RESULTS I CREATE

↓

THE IDENTITY I REINFORCE

The cycle continues until consciousness interrupts it.

That interruption is the beginning of becoming.

FINAL TEACHING

Do not ask only:

“What do I want my life to look like?”

Ask the deeper question:

“Who must I become for that life to become possible?”

Then begin.

Not tomorrow.

Not when everything is perfect.

Not when you feel ready.

Today.

Because every day you are becoming something.

The only question is:

Are you becoming who you consciously choose to be, or are you becoming who your past has taught you to be?
