Foreword
There are moments in life when something shifts.
Sometimes the shift happens quietly. A thought changes. A perspective opens. A wound begins to heal. We suddenly see something that was always there, but that we were not yet ready to see.
And sometimes the shift is much bigger.
It happens when we realise that the way we have been living is no longer serving us. When we begin to question the anger, fear, division, judgement and disconnection that have become so normal in our world. When we recognise that somewhere along the way, we lost touch with something essential.
Something human.
Something beautiful.
Something we all know, deep within ourselves, but can so easily forget.
Love.
Something Shifted is an invitation to remember.
Not romantic love alone, but the deeper love that begins with how we see ourselves and extends outward into how we see every other human being. It is the love expressed through kindness, compassion, patience, forgiveness, understanding, generosity and connection.
It asks us to consider a simple but profound possibility:
What if everything changes when we change what we bring into the world?
When we are angry, something shifts. We change, and the people around us change. Our words change. Our bodies respond differently. Our relationships become strained. The atmosphere around us becomes heavier.
But when we choose kindness, something shifts too.
A smile can change someone’s day. Compassion can soften a wounded heart. Forgiveness can release years of pain. Listening can make someone feel seen. A simple act of kindness can travel further than we will ever know.
And perhaps most importantly, when we choose love, we change ourselves.
This is not a book about pretending that the world is perfect. It is not a denial of suffering, injustice, disappointment or human pain. Rather, it is an invitation to respond differently to them.
We cannot control everything that happens around us.
But we can begin to choose what happens within us.
We can pause before reacting.
We can choose understanding before judgement.
We can choose connection before separation.
We can choose compassion before cruelty.
We can choose forgiveness before resentment.
And we can choose love.
The world does not need more people proving that they are right. It needs more people willing to be human.
It needs people who are prepared to look beyond differences and recognise the person standing on the other side. People who understand that beneath our opinions, cultures, beliefs, backgrounds and circumstances, we share many of the same hopes, fears, needs and longing to be loved.
Perhaps that is where the real shift begins.
Not somewhere out there.
Here.
Within us.
Something Shifted asks us to look at ourselves honestly and courageously. To notice what happens when we disconnect from love—and what becomes possible when we return to it.
Because when something shifts within us, something shifts in the way we experience the world.
And when enough of us make that shift, perhaps the world itself begins to change.
This book is therefore more than something to read.
It is an invitation to pause.
To reflect.
To feel.
To question.
To remember.
And perhaps, somewhere along these pages, to experience your own moment when—
Something shifts.
