Strart with a strong foundation

Build Your House on a Strong Foundation

A house can look beautiful on the outside, but what matters most is what is underneath it.

When we build a house, we understand something very important: the foundation matters.

You can build the most beautiful house in the world. You can use the finest materials, decorate every room, install expensive finishes and make everything look perfect. But if the foundation is weak, the beauty of the house will not protect it.

When the storms come, the cracks will appear.

When the winds blow, the structure will be tested.

When the ground moves, what was built on a weak foundation may not stand.

The same is true of our lives.

We spend enormous amounts of time building our careers, relationships, businesses, finances, families and reputations. But there is one question we should ask ourselves:

What have I built my life upon?

Because eventually, every life will face a storm.

And when the storm comes, your foundation will determine whether you stand.

Jesus Is the Foundation

Jesus gave us a powerful picture of this in Matthew 7.

He spoke about two men who built houses. One built his house on rock, while the other built his house on sand.

“Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock.”
— Matthew 7:24

Jesus continued:

“The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock.”
— Matthew 7:25

Notice something important.

Jesus did not say that the man who built on the rock would never experience a storm.

The rain still came.

The streams still rose.

The winds still blew.

The house was still tested.

The difference was the foundation.

The Christian life is not a promise that storms will never come. It is a promise that when the storms come, we do not have to face them without a foundation.

What Is Your Foundation?

There are many things upon which people build their lives.

Some build upon money.

Some build upon success.

Some build upon their careers.

Some build upon relationships.

Some build upon possessions.

Some build upon popularity.

Some build upon their own strength.

Some build upon what other people think about them.

And some build upon their own understanding.

But all of these things can change.

Money can disappear.

A career can end.

Relationships can change.

People can disappoint us.

Our health can change.

Possessions can be lost.

Our circumstances can turn upside down.

But Christ remains.

The Bible says:

“Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.”
— Hebrews 13:8

That is why Christ is not simply something we add to our lives.

Christ becomes the foundation upon which we build our lives.

The Word of God Is Our Foundation

A foundation is not merely something we say we believe in.

A foundation is something upon which we actually build.

Jesus said:

**“Everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house.
