THE FRUIT SOLUTION
Using the Fruit of the Spirit to Navigate Life, Relationships and Everyday Problems
1. What is The Fruit Solution all about?
The Fruit Solution is a practical book that takes the nine Fruits of the Spirit mentioned in Galatians 5:22–23 and turns them into a tool for everyday life. It shows us how love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control can help us navigate problems, relationships, difficult situations and personal challenges.
2. What inspired you to write this book?
I wanted to take something many people know from the Bible and make it practical. We often know what the Fruit of the Spirit is, but the real challenge is knowing what to do with it when we are angry, hurt, disappointed, frustrated or facing a difficult person. I wanted to create a simple tool that helps people apply these principles in real life.
3. Why do you call it “The Fruit Solution”?
Because the fruit gives us a way of responding to life’s problems. I’m not saying that every problem has a quick or easy solution. Rather, the Fruit of the Spirit can help us find a better way to approach the problem. Instead of immediately reacting, we can ask ourselves, “Which fruit do I need to bring into this situation?”
4. How does this work in everyday life?
Imagine someone has offended you. Your natural reaction might be anger. But you can pause and ask, “What would self-control look like here? What would gentleness look like? What would love require from me?” That pause gives you an opportunity to choose your response rather than simply reacting emotionally.
5. Can these principles help with relationships?
Absolutely. Relationships are one of the greatest places to practise the Fruit of the Spirit. Patience can help us deal with difficult people. Gentleness can change the way we communicate. Self-control can prevent us from saying something we later regret. Love can change the way we see and treat another person.
6. Does applying the Fruit of the Spirit mean we should simply tolerate bad behaviour?
No. Showing the Fruit of the Spirit doesn’t mean becoming a doormat. Sometimes love requires boundaries. Sometimes goodness requires confronting something that is wrong. Sometimes faithfulness means keeping a commitment, while self-control means walking away from a destructive argument. The fruits help us respond wisely without allowing someone else’s behaviour to determine our character.
7. Which Fruit of the Spirit is the most difficult for people to practise?
I think it depends on the person and the situation. For one person it may be patience; for another, self-control. Someone else may struggle with forgiveness, gentleness or maintaining peace when they feel attacked. That’s why I don’t see the fruits as nine separate qualities. They work together to help us develop the character we need for different circumstances.
8. Can the book help someone who isn’t familiar with the Bible?
Yes. The book is rooted in Christian Scripture, but the principles are presented in a practical way that people can understand and apply. Anyone can ask, “How can I become more loving, patient, kind, peaceful or self-controlled?” The book simply shows how these qualities are connected to the biblical teaching of the Fruit of the Spirit.
9. What is the biggest message you want readers to take from the book?
I want people to understand that the Fruit of the Spirit isn’t just something we read about on a Sunday. It is something we can practise on a Monday morning when somebody cuts us off in traffic, when our partner frustrates us, when we’re under pressure at work or when life doesn’t go according to plan. The real test of the fruit is how we live it when life becomes difficult.
10. If you could leave radio listeners with one question from the book, what would it be?
The question I would leave them with is: “What fruit does this situation need from me?” Before reacting to your next difficult situation, stop for a moment and ask that question. Maybe the situation needs patience. Maybe it needs kindness. Maybe it needs self-control, gentleness, peace or love. That simple pause could change the way you respond—and ultimately change the way you live.
