There is a quiet kind of pain in constantly wondering where you stand with someone.
You wonder whether they care.
You wonder whether they will call.
You wonder whether they really want you in their life.
You wonder why you always seem to be the one making the effort.
But when someone truly chooses you, you don’t have to spend your life guessing.
You will know.
You will see it in their actions.
You will feel it in their presence.
You will hear it in the way they speak to you.
You will experience it in the effort they make to remain connected to you.
People who choose you make space for you.
They don’t only come to you when they are lonely, bored, or need something. They don’t make you compete for their attention. They don’t continually make you question your value.
Choosing someone is an action.
It means, “I want you in my life.”
It means, “You matter to me.”
It means, “I am willing to make an effort.”
And choosing someone doesn’t mean they will always agree with you, always have time for you, or never disappoint you. Every relationship has difficult seasons.
But underneath those difficulties there is something unmistakable:
They keep choosing the relationship.
Sometimes we hold on because we remember how someone used to treat us. We keep hoping that one day they will finally see our value. We keep giving more, loving harder, explaining ourselves, and trying to earn a place that should never have required us to beg for it.
That’s when love becomes exhausting.
You should never have to continually audition for a place in someone’s life.
There comes a moment when you have to stop asking:
“How can I make them choose me?”
And start asking:
“Why am I choosing someone who continually chooses not to choose me?”
Walking away doesn’t always mean you stopped loving someone.
Sometimes it means you finally started loving yourself.
Life is too short to spend years standing at a door that someone keeps refusing to open.
Go where you are welcomed.
Stay where you are appreciated.
Love where love is returned.
Give your energy where there is reciprocity.
And most importantly, remember this:
The right people won’t leave you constantly questioning whether you matter.
You will know.
You will see it.
You will feel it.
Because when someone genuinely chooses you, their actions will eventually make their answer unmistakable.
